Pine Haven Llamas

Well...Let's just look at some of the possibilities!

Llamas can do way more than you would imagine...they can be used for packing and hiking or trained to pull a cart. They can visit schools, hospitals and nursing homes. They compete in shows (much like horses or dogs) in various capacities: halter, agility, performance. Llama shows and competitions can promote single llamas or the entire herd. They make excellent 4H animals and teach children responsibility and kindness with their own winning ways. Llamas are quiet, peaceful animals that get along well with goats, sheep, donkeys, horses, cats and family dogs not to mention....people. They make soft humming sounds for communication. Llamas are easily transported in a pick-up, van or trailer.  They usually lie down during transit.

Llamas rarely spit at people - they usually only become spitters after being mistreated.
Llamas are indigenous to the High Andes of the South American countries of Bolivia, Chile, Peru and Argentina.
They are classified as livestock but are easy to raise and can be handled by anyone. Llamas are hardy and adaptable to most climates, altitudes and conditions. As a rule they weigh between 250 to 450 pounds when mature.
They eat between 4 - 6 pounds of hay a day and require no special diets. They require far less space than horses and their manure is valued by organic gardeners. Lamas droppings are practically odorless, they are low in nitrogen and make an excellent soil amendment.

Female llamas are normally first bred at 18 to 24 months of age, with a gestation period
of approximately 11 1/2 months. The babies are called cria and are irresistibly cute.

Llamas come in a variety of colors, white, black, grey, red, brown, tan and various combinations of those colors. They (as with all fiber animals) have various degrees of fineness. Our llamas have soft, warm fiber that makes luscious yarn and other fiber products.

Llamas qualify for certain tax advantages.  They are an excellent income producing business. Llama prices generally start at approximately $500 for pet quality males and $2,000 for females.
